Cross comes with the gold crucifixion in the center, ready to be hang, it is shiny and it comes in the gorgeous bicolor combination of burgundy-brown-amber ~ a distinctive pattern.
How do they make this?
First a clear glass bubble is blown. This is rolled in "frit" which is fine powder glass in the color - here blue. The frit is fired (melted) to form a new layer of glass over the clear bubble. Firing (heating the glass) and blowing continue which stretches the color in an abstract pattern and gives the random pattern to the color. The cross is then ground and polished to have this magnificent appearance. That's is the reason why each piece is unique (it is made to order for Portara), each will (while preserving the general look of the particular cross) vary slightly from the others - this is part of the Murano glass allure and mystique.
